To encourage community members to pause during the hectic holiday season and consider what is truly important, Hospice of Spokane hosts the annual Community Memorial Tree. Not intended as a fundraising event, the Tree is displayed in a public area during the weeks leading up to Christmas. It is an opportunity for our community to come together and honor those we love who have died.
Staffed by volunteers, passers by are invited to decorate a white paper dove in memory of a loved one and hang it on the Tree. Decorations span the gamut, from simply writing the first name of a parent, spouse or child, to ornate, multi-colored drawings. While the intricacy of the doves varies, the sentiment of love is constant.
The Community Memorial Tree is typically up during the second week of December and is located on the third floor of River Park Square in downtown Spokane. We invite you to stop by and decorate a dove in memory of a loved one.
